Why does the text in my policy appear so small when I print it?

When text in a printed policy prints very small (but shows normally on screen), there is usually content in the policy that is too wide for the page, and the text is automatically resizing (shrinking) in order to fit everything on one page.  Sometimes it is not easy to detect what piece of content is causing the issue.

The two most common causes:

  1. There is a table in the policy that is too wide to fit on the page (usually copied in from Excel).

  2. There is a series of spaces causing the issue - sometimes when content is pasted as plain text from Word, columns or tab stops are brought in as a series of spaces.

If each of the "x"'s below represents a space, the system sees it like this:
    xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

You can't really see it yourself because it's a space, which is invisible.  There's really no way to prevent it, and it is rare, but does crop up.  What is happening is the system is trying to fit all of those spaces on one line (since it sees it as a long uninterrupted string of "text", and there's no break in it).  It can't fit that many characters on one line, so it shrinks all of the text down until it fits (kind of how Excel sheets can shrink to fit).

There is a setting in your browser (look under "File > Page Set Up") called Shrink to Fit that is causing the text to resize.  Unchecking this box will enable your text to print normally; however, you may have a gap in the text (if the issue is due to extra spaces) or if it is caused by a wide table, the table may cut off on the right side.

If you are having this issue, you can contact the support team at policysupport@cusolutionsgroup.com to help identify and correct the content that is causing the issue.
